ALYSHA RAMOS: GALORE MAGAZINE

Your Going To See Alysha ~ In Your Dreams

Our gorgeous Alysha Ramos chats to Galore Magazine <3

When an artist comes in hot with a single name—you know she means business. And no, I’m not talking “McLovin’,” I mean a normal name—or normal-ish.

Alysha is no exception to the one-name icon rule, and just like the emoji in her Instagram bio—she is a star that’s about to be shining bright AF.

We talked to the Cuban & British babe all about what inspired her to become a musician, her fave mascara, and her soon-to-be-released EP.

Who are your heroes that inspired you to become a musician?

No one in particular. I used to listen to everything and be like, “I want to do that,” and literally just copied it.

Growing up Cuban and British, your roots are tied in great music from Celia Cruz to The Beatles, how has your family and heritage helped inspire your EP?

Since I was a baby, I would hear a lot of r&b and pop that my mum would play throughout the house and I feel like that plus my music taste now—which consists of listening to artists who mix r&b with other genres such as lo-fi and alternative— I feel like that inspired my EP.

What beauty product are you obsessed with at the moment?

Sephora gave me the Milk Cosmetics Kush Mascara as a birthday present and I’m literally obsessed with it. My lashes look so good now.

What’s your zodiac sign and do you feel like it accurately describes you?

I’m a capricorn and I can assure you, everything they say about capricorns is true.

What cartoon character do you most relate to?

I’m gonna have to say Sleeping Beauty, because I sleep a lot.

What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?

I would tell myself not to be hanging out with the wrong crowd, no matter how “cool” they are. I’d also tell myself to take proper care of myself both mentally and physically.

What was the inspiration behind the video for “David Attenborough?”

The inspiration behind the video was David Attenborough, the man himself. I wanted the theme to be very jungle-like and that’s what I imagined when I was listening to the song.

If you had to describe your sound, what would you call it?

“Lofi-soul” I believe is the correct term.

What song are you most excited for people to hear on the EP?

My song, “Boys Hurt You.” I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on it from friends and family.

Your single “Dreams,” is on repeat in our office. What was your last dream about?

I’m glad you like the song, but I always forget my dreams after a little while.

If you could collaborate with any musician dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Sampha, he has an amazing voice and has both great songwriting and piano skills.

What is next for you in 2020 and what can we expect music-wise on this record?

I’m probably gonna be working with more and more producers and musicians this year, working towards my next EP and singles. On the EP, you can expect a lot of upbeat poppy r&b sounds.
