How did you become a model?
When I was 14, my very good friend and now established photographer Matthew James Arthur Payne asked if I’d like to do a photoshoot with him. We were published in a couple of small independent magazines including one in New York, which led to him working with some agencies in London. A few people showed some interest so I had a couple of meetings, and was signed at 15
What was your first big break in the industry?
When I was 17 I shot for a L’Oreal Vogue promotion shot by Jon Compson
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
This is a tough one, I suppose it depends what you mean by interesting… Let’s just say I’ve had to fight over a chocolate bar and spit milk onto another model’s face before! The River Island / Liz Black fashion film I did, directed by Mary Nighy is definitely one of my all time faves. It was shot in the woods of Pinewood Studios and was my first insight into the world of film sets. The Johnston’s of Elgin campaign in Scotland, was incredible. We were joined by one very lively pony, two labradors, a jack russel and a pug. Nothing beats furry cuddles on set! I would also have to include a shoot in Italy last year, where we shot in stunning locations in Tuscany, we even ventured to the marble quarries, including the one where the Michelangelo statue was sourced from… that was really special! I also recently shot with Rankin. 24 models in the nude, covered in powder paint to celebrate the female form… That was interesting.
Who’s your favorite photographer you’ve done a shoot with and why?
There are so many! Matthew will always be a favourite, we started out together and I love his style. Benjamin Kauffman, Rio Romaine and Stephen Gunn without a doubt. When you click with a photographer and have the same vision and taste, it’s a good feeling! I have that with these four.
Could you tell us a bit more about your mother agency Nevs Models?
I love ‘em. They’re an awesome agency, it’s intimate so everyone knows everyone and you develop relationships with each other. There’s always cool projects going on and they’re straight up and organised, I love that.
Could you describe your daily routine when you do castings?
Well, routine in this world can be very hard to maintain. But I make sure I’ve got my tube route sorted. Always have a phone charger and enough comp cards. A morning coffee stop is a must, for all that casting cardio haha.
What’s your favorite outfit to wear to castings?
Black, Black, Black… how predictable I am, ey!
Which five words would your friends use to describe you?
Oooo this is tricky! I had to ask them, and they said… funny, dedicated, vivacious, spirited and kind-hearted. I have good friends, don’t I!
What is your favorite healthy snack?
Pear, cinnamon and almond butter… in fact, almond butter with anything.
What is your all time favorite movie and why?
Shawshank Redemption because it’s so gripping, The Notebook because it’s Gosling, obviously! and Grease because I grew up dreaming of being Sandy. Sorry, I know you said one haha.
Which make-up brands are you using?
Nars, Georgio Armani and Kevyn Aucoin.
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
Yes, it can be a bit of a whirlwind at the start. Be prepared to work hard, anything worth while takes determination, positivity and dedication. Keep a supportive network around you and stay grounded. Go with the flow just have fun with it! When you’re on set, be confident, completely present and stay focused.
