It's unheard of for an upcoming designer to put on a solo presentation at one of London's most prestigious art galleries/museums - but that didn't stop Grace Wales Bonner.
Following an explosive presentation during London Collections: Men AW15, Wales Bonner reexhibited as part of the V&A's 'Fashion In Motion' project in which the crowds definitely turned out for. With models dripping with glitter, the English-Jamaican Central Saint Martins graduate is definitely turning heads in the fashion industry. A couple of Nevs models were lucky to be involved in the presentation showcasing Jeremy Boateng, Sam Charles and AW15 favourite Fallou Gueye.
"Created by senior V&A curator (and Savage Beauty mastermind) Claire Wilcox, the scheme is determined to break down the walls between the fashion industry and public with free shows and presentations. One of Britain’s most visionary new talents, Wales Bonner is the perfect candidate: the designer is kickstarting discussions about the representation of black masculinity in fashion, inspired by artists who, in her words, “disturb institutionalised notions of blackness”. Her work is an important and vital new addition to Britain’s fashion landscape." - Dazed Digital
Check out the exclusive film by Ben Smallwood on Dazed Digital as it captures the spirit of the exhibition perfectly.
